Well, it all started out long ago, when I got tired of using bang path addresses on my busness cards. So some friends and I thought that it would be neat to have a real address to use. So I went through the hassle of registering the domain name Stonemarche.Org. We got a uucp link with dartvax.dartmouth.edu (aka dartvax), back when it still was a Vax. We also toyed around with a feed from uunet.uu.net, but it proved to be just too expensive.
Now a number of our friends wanted a `real address' too, so I set up the uucp links to connect to them. Since I had the big computer, I wound up being the hub. I think it may have had to do with having the established links already in place.
Then when our housemate (Morgan) bought his house and moved out, he set up his machine as a second hub, and we arranged to get more uucp links to the outside world.
After a good long time, I put the machines in my house on the Internet. This has helped with the routing issues.
